In January 2012, Paul Davies was asked to offer some help and advice to a small group of parents of children from Ysgol Gynradd Castell Nedd who wanted to start running in order to improve their fitness. Expecting half a dozen or so people to turn up, Paul was suprised to find himself leading a group of 20-odd runners! The following week, 25 turned up, then 30... then 40... and before he knew it, Paul had a whole running club on his hands!
Two years later, Run4All was home to over 200 members of all abilities - from those who have never run before through to some very (very!) speedy atheltes.
We now have almost 300 members! Our weekly track sessions are regularly attended by 100 or more members.
On 6th December 2014 Run4All Neath staged their very first Welsh Athletics affiliated event, the Run4All 5k Santa Run on Aberavon seafront. This has become a popular annual event. We also regularly host a series of three 5km races on Aberavon sea-front. We have more events like this planned in the future - so watch this space!
The club is fully affiliated to Welsh Athletics. We have men's and ladies teams in the West Glamorgan Cross Country League and in 2014, three of our runners competed in the Wales National Cross Country Championships. Our runners regularly turn out in large numbers for Saturday morning parkrun events (at Porthcawl and sometimes Llyn Llech Owain), as well as many local 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon events. We had nearly 20 runners taking part in the 2014 London Marathon and a similar number ran in the "UKs hardest marathon", the Snowdonia Marathon later in the year. If you're ever at a running event in South Wales and see what looks like a large swarm of bees - that'll be us!
We pride ourselves on our inclusive atmosphere. From the first athlete to cross the line to the last, we are a team and we want everyone to feel a part of it.
Various club groups meet regularly during the week for different types of runs (see "Where and when we meet" for details). So whether you're just looking to get fit and maybe lose some weight or if you want to train up for some serious competitive running, you're sure to find something for you.
